Bandung – The Deakin University - Lancaster University Indonesia (DLI) campus has been officially launched in Bandung, West Java. This historic moment marks the establishment of Indonesia’s first UK-Australia joint international university, opening new opportunities for transnational education and Indonesian students.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by senior government officials, diplomats, university partners, educational institutions, and key figures in the education sector, including are Faiz Rahman Representative of the Governor, Dominic Jermey CVO, OBE British Ambassador to Indonesia and Timor-Leste. Gita Kamath Australian Chargé d'Affaires to Indonesia. Professor Iain Martin Vice-Chancellor, Deakin University. Professor Andy Schofield Vice-Chancellor and Lancaster University, last person in that list is Professor Greg Barton from Rector, DLI.
A Commitment to Global Education Located in Bandung, just a two-hour high-speed train journey from Jakarta, the DLI campus represents an innovative trilateral partnership in education. The first academic term is set to begin in September 2025, with flagship programs in Business and Information Technology.
Indonesian students will have the opportunity to earn a dual-degree from two globally renowned universities, enjoying a world-class learning environment while staying close to home.
Professor Iain Martin, Vice-Chancellor of Deakin University, stated:

Deakin’s strong reputation in balancing education and research, combined with Lancaster’s excellence in transnational education, will provide students with a truly world-class academic experience."

Meanwhile, Professor Greg Barton, Rector of DLI, emphasized that, "Deakin University Lancaster University Indonesia will offer high-quality international education that is more accessible to students in Indonesia."
Support from the UK and Australian Governments to Deakin Lancaster University, The British Ambassador to Indonesia, Dominic Jermey, stated, "As a global leader in transnational education, the UK Government is proud to have supported the DLI project since it began in 2022. This is a tangible example of how the UK and Indonesia are strengthening collaboration in higher education, innovation, and research."
Australian Chargé d'Affaires to Indonesia, Gita Kamath, added: "Education is a key pillar of the Australia-Indonesia relationship. This joint initiative between Deakin University and Lancaster University will expand access for Indonesian students to international education, aligning with the government’s priorities in human capital development through education."
